Che Guevara
Mi Proyecto
For this project we studied Che Guevara and his life. For my project I chose to write three commands in Spanish that Che would say. However, I added a little twist. Instead of writing three commands about the Cuban Revolution (Which Che was a leader of and was a commonly used context for the three commands) I decided to make my commands about something I was passionate about, the environment. I am very passionate about conservation and the condition of our environment and I decided to make the three commands Che says about the environment. I felt like my finished product was pretty well done. I spent a lot of time on my drawing and on the commands, so I am very proud about my finished product. I learned a lot about the Cuban revolution and Che's life along with Fidel and Raul Castro. I also learned about current events and what is happening with the relations between Cuba and the U.S. right now. I learned about commands in Español. I also memorized a short monologue about Che's life to recite to the audience members during the exhibition. I felt like I did well on this and I was able to clearly and concisely speak Spanish to the audience without any major mispronunciations or grammar mistakes. I really enjoyed this project and hope to do more like it soon!

Proyecto de biografía
Description
For this project I completed a biography for Maria Gutierrez Blanchard, a Spanish artist. She specialized in the area of cubism, a style of painting. I completed a worksheet, gathering basic information on her and then put together a slideshow explaining her life (which you can access below). The slideshow followed her story starting in the early years, leading all the way to the older years. It mentioned her contributions to the artist's world and her own achievements. I then wrote a passage explaining her life in short and memorized it thoroughly to present at the exhibition. I also answered seven questions that I proposed to the audience and was able to present those at exhibition as well. At the exhibition I presented my project to numerous audiences informing them about the life of Maria Gutierrez Blanchard in the past-tense Spanish.

Reflection
This project was definitely challenging for me. I found it especially challenging to decipher the preterit from the imperfect and I will work on that understanding in the future. Because I was gone for a large part of refining this project I found it stressful in the last week or so of the project to catch up. I was able to practice the past tense skills and I think I grew in knowledge of the preterite and imperfect. However, I did really enjoy learning about Maria Gutierrez Blanchard and being able to write about her in the past tense Spanish. I enjoyed presenting her work and life story to the audience at the exhibition.

La casa en mango street
|
Description and Reflection
For this project we read a book 'La Casa en Mango Street'. We based our short stories off of a few chapters in this book. I wrote about my house and the experiences I had in it. I reminisced on childhood memories that I had with my sister and friends in my house. I also wrote about an adventure that I had with my friend Cara that took place at my house. 'La Casa en Mango Street' had miniature stories based off of the experiences the the character had at her house. This project was challenging because it required a lot of patience. This was the most I had written in Spanish to date and it was difficult to follow and remember all the grammatical rules. We also had to incorporate past tense into this project. This was one of the first projects where I had to use the 'preterite and imperfect' grammatical rules. I think this really helped me to learn how to form sentences and stories and I hope to use this new skill in the future! |
Cuento de tu niñez
Description
For this project our assignment was to look back on a childhood memory and write 100-150 words in Spanish (past tense) about that experience. I wrote about my trip to Hawaii when I was 9 years old. I told my audience about all the adventures I had on the wonderful island of Maui including, snorkeling, boating, whale watching, and hanging out with my cousins and family. I really enjoyed this project because it was one of the first projects we completed in the past tense and I learned so much about it through this project.

Past Tense Importance
Past tense is very important to express in Spanish because using present tense all the time can lead to miscommunication. It is important to learn and express correctly in order to speak Spanish correctly. Using the preterite and the imperfect tenses in my story allowed me to describe my experiences in Hawaii in the past. Obviously, I did not go to Hawaii in the present, so it was important to understand the past tenses in order to use them in my story. I was able to learn and grasp the understanding of past tense while writing this past tense piece and I was, and will be able to incorporate the things I learned into future projects.

UN dia en la vida de bonnie la orca
Description
The objective of this project was to completely explain a Day in the Life of... For my character I chose to follow a adventurous day in the life of Bonnie the Orca. The reader follows Bonnie throughout her day of going to school and going to the reef after school. One of the major elements in this project was using reflexive verbs. Reflexive verbs are used when the direct or indirect object of a sentence is the same as the subject. Reflexive verbs are made up of an infinitive and a reflexive pronoun. You can always tell which verbs are reflexive when you look them up in the infinitive form because they will have se attached to the end of the verb. Reflexive verbs require the use of a reflexive pronoun to indicate who the subject/object is. These types of verbs are not very common in English, but are used frequently in Spanish to describe actions that a person does to, for, or from him or herself. Many verbs that express actions related to personal care or daily routines are reflexive and do not translate easily into English as "myself," "yourself,".
Overall, I really enjoyed this project. I had a lot of fun learning how to incorporate Spanish into a fun story about someone's day. Throughout the process of this project I learned a lot about explaining my day to someone and how to use reflexive verbs effectively.

Porqué statement
Estudio español porque quiero hablar muchos idiomas, para trabaja como un Biologista Marinaro y consultar con otros compañeros, y por mi educación.
I really want to study Español because it is good for cognitive skills and gives me the ability to speak multiple languages. Español is great to learn not only for now, the present, but for the future as well. Speaking multiple languages can really help me obtain my dream job, a marine biologist, because you need to consult in many different languages with co-workers. Español is also a very interesting language to learn. I love to learn a country’s culture through their language and Español is a language that has so much cultural history written into it. Español is also very good for my education. It makes me think critically and effectively because it is a difficult language to understand and learn. Learning it will help me comprehend Español when I go to countries that speak it and be able to effectively have conversations with individuals that speak it. It has always been a dream of mine to speak multiple languages. I speak some French and am now excited that Español is becoming part of my speaking languages. Español is a very interesting language that I am very happy to be learning!
