Brave New World Project
This project helped define what happiness is and how we seek it. For the past half semester we have been working hard to find the meaning of true happiness. For the majority of this project we had to read a book called Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. In the book, Huxley creates a utopian world in which everything seems perfect. Throughout this book you learn the consequences of always being happy. When the project was coming to a close we held a seminar in which we talked through the book and it's meaning. After the seminar, we were instructed to write a six paragraph essay explaining our view on happiness and what it means to us, mine is below. At the final exhibition we held another seminar, this time letting the community members join us and present to us their views on happiness. I really enjoyed this project and hope to do another like it soon!

Model United Nations Project
Description
For the past ten weeks the ninth grade has been working hard to understand the complexities of the United Nations. They have been studying how the U.N. makes its decisions, it’s role in the world, and how it retains peace. The topic we had been investigating throughout the main part of the project was the Israel and Palestine issue. When Jews returned to their ‘holy land’ after the devastating WW2, they soon realized that coming back wouldn't be so easy. Over time (even though they did not legally own it) Palestinians began to call what is now Israel their ‘holy land’. The Jewish return soon triggered conflict between the two inhabitants of Israel and set off a hatred between the two faiths that has lasted almost a century. The main dispute is over land and who will inhabit it. There have been multiple solutions presented to divide up the land between the two faiths, but neither side has seemed satisfied. The final objective of the MUN project was to have students of Animas High School hold a Model United Nations conference in which the students attempted to reach a consensus on the issue between Israel and Palestine based on their country’s perspectives.

Socialization Essay
Mask
My mask represents myself, my identity, and society. To represent my identity I put music on my mask. Music represents my identity because it is a huge part of my daily lifestyle. My love of music came to me from the cycle of socialization. Because of my economic class, I was given my violin which started the love for music. I was socialized by the people around me to enjoy music. The puzzle pieces on my mask represent how society and our nation is hanging by a thread with the amount of gender and economic casualties it has. The tree on my mask is representing what growth would look like if we stood up for what we, as a society thought was right. Last, but not least, there are many different colored leaves and branches on the tree that represent the differences in society and whether or not we decide to accept them.
