polynomial and art project
Description
For this project I had to use polynomial functions to create a piece of art. I started by picking a picture to base multiple polynomial equations off of. I chose a picture of an Orca. I was instructed to find curves in the picture and then find the polynomial function of those curves. I graphed the curves on transparent graph paper which made it easier to replicate the graph lines later in the project. I then had to figure out the polynomial functions from the graph curves. After I completed that step, I had to replicate the polynomial functions graphs on a different piece of paper. I then drew a picture based off of the polynomial curves that I had graphed. This project was a challenge and I hope to face another challenging project like it in the future!

This was a difficult project for me. Understanding polynomial functions was difficult for me because it is such a broad subject that it was hard to grasp everything there was to know about polynomial functions. I wish I had gone back through this before I turned it in and really refined it and made sure all my math was right. I think I didn't give this project my all and that will definitely change with future projects. During this project I learned a lot about how to incorporate my understanding of polynomials into art and hope to do more mathematically artistic projects like this again soon!

Description
For this project I had to pick a concept to research deeper into and find examples of how it is used in our world today. I choose to research the concept: Linear Equations. I already had a lot of knowledge in this concept, but I really wanted to see how it was used in my world today. The objective was to create a paper that resembled a research paper on the concept we had chosen. I first filled out my own document with my independent research and then invited to a document which had been worked on before. I then added my own independent research to the shared document to create a final research paper. I then had to create a poster-board representing the research I gathered which would show at exhibition. This was an interesting project for math and can't wait to do more like it in the future!
Reflection
I really enjoyed this project because I got to learn more about a subject that I was interested in and that I thought I knew a lot about. This project definitely improved my independent research skills which I will need in my future here at Animas High School. I was able to gain a lot of knowledge of a subject, turns out, I didn't know very much about. I really enjoyed learning more about how I and others use linear equations in the world today. I had absolutely no idea linear equations were used in so many different professions! Throughout this project I also learned a lot about how they are used in those professions and also in just everyday life. I think this new aspect I have gained about linear equations through this project will help me not only in my future in school but outside of life as well. This project was challenging yet interesting, I have gained new skills and insights on linear equations and plan to carry them throughout the rest of my high school experience.
Algebra 2
This semester in Algebra ll, I am proud of my Linear Landscape Mini-Project. For this project, we had to incorporate Linear Equations into a landscape drawing. My final grade was 27/30, however, I chose this project because it represents my creativity within math. I was able to include my perspective on what we were learning and in the end I think that really helped me with expressing my love for math through a project, not just through textbook questions. This project was the first time I had ever incorporated math into an actual project. It was challenging, but at the same time it was intriguing. I learned so much throughout that project because I was captivated with it. Putting math into a project was something that interested me greatly and made the lesson even more interesting! I hope to do more projects like this in the future!
To the left is my Linear Landscape project. The problems I wrote for this were:
1) y=21
2) x=3
3) y= -5x+18
4) y-20=-2(x-3)
5) -4x+2y=14
6) x/5+y/1=1
7) Inequality: y ≥ 1/5x+18
In math this year I have learned so many things. Last year, math was not a big part of my life like it is this year. My dad was teaching the class (voluntarily) because our school did not have a good math program. Throughout that semester that I was in his class, I learned some things, but I always had to have help on some of the problems. This year, I am really trying to get it done myself, without any help. Sure, once in a while a problem comes up that I don't completely understand, but instead of going straight to my dad or Effi, I try it first until I know I need help. For the most part I am succeeding. I am doing well on my homework assignments that I completed myself and that shows that my method is working. Another thing that I need to work on this year is procrastination. I found myself, a lot of the times, finishing large parts of projects and homework (weekly assignments) the day before they were due. I would like to, in the future, get working immediately on the project or homework once I have the rubric and directions. This will make my projects better and help with my stress level. My projects have not all been coming out to be what I want them to be. I know I can perform at a much higher level on them then I am now. Next semester I plan to give it my all, don't procrastinate, get done with my homework and projects earlier, and most importantly achieve the highest level that I can achieve.
